Crop Management in Late Planted Crops Checklist
| Completed | Crop Phase | Recommendation | Reasoning |
| Y / N | Planting | Aim for plant populations that are uniform. |
A uniform population will give you more bolls with a:
|
| Y / N | Planting | Water up or have greater planting capacity. | Moisture in the planting zone will dry away quickly. |
| Y / N | Squaring | 8-10 vegetative nodes. | Due to higher average temperatures in the pre-squaring period, the initiation of 1st square may be higher up the plant. |
| Y / N | Flowering | Use the STEFF tool. | To asses the flowering window based on time of sowing. |
| Y / N | Flowering | 8+ Nodes Above White Flower (NAWF) at first flower. | Regardless of planting date, this recommendation remains the same. You may need to manage a higher rate of decline at NAWF. |
| Y / N | Flowering | 90% first position retention. | Ideally, there should be a desire to hold all fruit as less time to compensate for fruit loss is available. Monitor your boll load to ensure it is following the optimum rate of boll number development. |
| Y / N | Cut Out | Aim to maintain high retention. |
Timing of late season Mepiquat Chloride applications to manage vegetation growth and assist with defoliation. Concentrate on first position fruit. Be mindful of your season length. Some valleys may not allow you to extend your cutout without impacting on your fibre quality. |
